Junior kicker Ryan Mendoza kicked the game-winning field goal after the clock had hit zero but was extended for one more play due to a defensive penalty. Burbank coach Hector Valencia praised Mendoza for his crucial kick and the team’s overall performance.
St. Genevieve mounted a fourth-quarter comeback, tying the game late before Burbank sealed the win. Jaylin Burt led the Valiants with two rushing touchdowns, while Elijah Pendleton shined for Burbank with a 97-yard touchdown run and key punt return to set up the winning field goal.
Quarterback Deshawne Laporte impressed in his first varsity start, showing poise and accuracy throughout the game. Valencia commended Laporte’s ability to stay calm under pressure and find open receivers downfield.
