A Los Angeles couple is suing JetBlue after a block of ice allegedly fell from a plane and smashed through the roof of their home. The incident occurred on January 1, 2024, when the couple narrowly escaped being crushed by the ice while sleeping in their bed. The lawsuit, filed in federal court, claims the couple now feels anxious and depressed, unable to sleep comfortably in their home due to fear of another incident.
The suit seeks $1 million in damages for emotional distress, pain, suffering, and inconvenience, as well as medical expenses. JetBlue has stated that safety is their top priority and they are not liable for damages as they have complied with all regulations. An investigation revealed that the aircraft had a history of maintenance issues related to potable water, leading to previous incidents of ice falling from the plane.
The couple’s attorney emphasized the traumatic effects of the incident on the homeowners and the need for accountability from the airline. Despite ongoing litigation, JetBlue has declined to comment on the matter.
