A U.S. military operation in Iraq resulted in the killing of at least 15 Islamic State militants and injuries to six U.S. soldiers, though none of the injuries were life-threatening. The operation took place in Anbar province in western Iraq, targeting ISIS leaders who were armed with weapons and explosive belts. The goal of the operation was to disrupt and degrade ISIS’ ability to plan and carry out attacks against Iraqi civilians, U.S. citizens, and allies in the region. The operation, conducted in partnership with Iraqi security forces, resulted in no civilian casualties. Iraqi Security Forces are continuing to exploit the locations raided in order to gather further intelligence.
