For the 15th Year, Runners and Walkers Brave the Vincent Thomas Bridge – Daily News


Thousands of runners participated in the 15th annual Conquer the Bridge race in San Pedro, CA on Labor Day, Sept. 2nd, 2024. Raul Acros finished in 1st place overall, while Liz Rubio was the 1st place winner among women. The event, which has become a waterfront Labor Day tradition, saw participants traverse a 5.3-mile course over the Vincent Thomas Bridge, enjoying views of the Los Angeles Harbor. The race raises money for nonprofits and promotes exercise on the holiday. The ILWU also held its annual breakfast, followed by the Los Angeles/Long Beach Harbor Labor Coalition Parade and a picnic at Banning Park in Wilmington. Participants, including Jim Litzel and Madeline Popovich, posed for the camera before the race, adding to the festive atmosphere of the event. The challenge attracts both seasoned runners and walkers who enjoy the unique experience of crossing the iconic bridge. With throngs of enthusiastic participants, the 15th annual race was a success, bringing the community together for a day of celebration and physical activity.
