Sherman Oaks Notre Dame had a slow start in their game against Los Alamitos, prompting Coach Matt Sargeant to bench four starters with the team trailing 7-2. However, Zachary White turned things around with a strong performance in the second quarter, scoring five consecutive baskets to help Notre Dame secure a 100-69 victory. The win highlighted Notre Dame’s status as one of the top teams in Southern California, alongside St. John Bosco, Harvard-Westlake, and Eastvale Roosevelt.
Notre Dame, with a 5-0 record, is still awaiting the return of All-American junior transfer student Tyran Stokes, who is recovering from a wrist injury. Despite missing his jersey, White finished with 12 points and nine rebounds in the game. Lino Mark scored 24 points, and Josiah Nance contributed 22 points to Notre Dame’s win.
In other high school basketball action, Loyola defeated Downey 69-54, Bishop Alemany beat Arcadia 46-41, and Westlake upset Crespi 56-52. Heritage Christian remained undefeated at 6-0 as Dillan Shaw and Tae Simmons each scored 23 points in a 68-56 victory over Bishop Montgomery. EJ Vernon returned for Crossroads, scoring 31 points in an 82-49 win over Venice.
On the girls’ side, Ventura defeated Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 70-43, with Kailee Staniland scoring 29 points for Ventura and freshman Hamiley Arenas contributing 17 points for Notre Dame. Overall, it was an eventful night of high school basketball with several standout performances and close matchups across the board.
