Authorities Urge Public Help in Fatal Carson Hit-and-Run Case
CARSON — Law enforcement officials are appealing for the public’s assistance in identifying the driver responsible for a tragic hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of 54-year-old Cherise Johnson in Carson. The accident occurred on August 31, shortly after 6:05 PM, when Johnson was walking southbound at the intersection of Del Amo Boulevard and Tillman Avenue. She was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Del Amo Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
In a bid to aid the investigation, the Carson City Council voted unanimously on November 6 to offer a $25,000 reward for information leading to the identification, apprehension, and conviction of the individual responsible for Johnson’s death. “We sympathize with the victim’s family and hope that this reward will assist in expediting the identification, arrest, and conviction of those who caused this tragedy,” said Carson Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes.
Witnesses have described the vehicle involved in the collision as a white SUV. The sheriff’s officials are urging anyone with information about the fatal incident to contact the Carson Sheriff’s Station. Investigators R. Long and C. Sam can be reached at 310-839-1123 or by email at carsontrafflasd.org. For those who wish to remain anonymous, tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or lacrimestoppers.org.
The community is encouraged to come forward, as officials stress that this incident could have affected anyone. The authorities remain hopeful that cooperation from the public will lead to justice for Cherise Johnson and her grieving family.
