Planned protests force cancellation of Wednesday’s public green ship tours – Daily News

Those who had planned to tour the new Maersk green cargo ship, the Alette Mærsk, were disappointed when they received an email in the early hours of Wednesday morning announcing the cancellation of the tours. The ship left port a few hours later, with the cancellation being attributed to planned protests at the event site.

According to the email from Maersk, activist groups were planning to protest at the site, prompting concerns that the protests could escalate and disrupt the event. As a result, local authorities recommended the cancelation of the tours. Instead, Maersk provided an online link for a behind-the-scenes video of one of the Alette’s sister ships, the Ane Maersk.

The email expressed regret over the situation, noting the interest from the public in touring the green methanol-powered vessel. Maersk emphasized the importance of decarbonizing shipping and logistics, and apologized for any inconvenience caused by the cancellation.

A Maersk spokesperson offered a written comment, quoting from the email, expressing regret over the cancellation and thanking the public for their interest in the company’s efforts towards a greener future. Despite the disappointment of the canceled tours, Maersk remains committed to sustainability and the transition to eco-friendly shipping practices.
