Bronny James, son of NBA star LeBron James and a new Lakers teammate, has many options for addressing his father on the court. He can use a shortened version of their shared first name, LeBron’s jersey number, or even the term “GOAT” reserved for the best players. However, one thing he is not allowed to call him is “Dad” while they are at work. LeBron has made it clear that once they are in the practice facility or arena, Bronny must refer to him as “2-3” or “Bron.” However, outside of work, he can call him “Dad.”
Bronny was selected by the Lakers in the NBA draft in June and signed a four-year contract worth nearly $8 million. This makes the father-son duo the first to appear on the same roster in the NBA. LeBron has long talked about the possibility of playing with his son in the league, and now that it has become a reality, he acknowledges that there will be an adjustment for Bronny in terms of how he addresses him on the court.
LeBron has stated that while he has always called his son Bronny, it will be an adjustment for him to not be referred to as “Dad” during games. He jokingly mentioned the scenario of Bronny yelling out “Dad, push the ball up!” during a game, emphasizing that such behavior is not allowed. Overall, the James family dynamic on the court is unique, with clear boundaries set by LeBron regarding how he is addressed by his son during work hours.
