Former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer (MLS), despite the league not being highly regarded in Germany. Reus expressed his excitement to play in MLS, where he believes great players play. The Galaxy had to pay $400,000 to Charlotte FC for Reus’s discovery rights, as it is not always straightforward to sign players of his caliber in MLS.
Galaxy’s coach Gregg Vanney plans to use Reus in multiple positions on the field due to his versatility, and expects him to contribute significantly to their attack. Reus himself is focused on working together with his teammates to win championships, highlighting the importance of unity within the team.
Reus is set to make his debut for the Galaxy against Atlanta FC on August 24, with the team currently in first place in the Western Conference. In a separate development, former Galaxy star Landon Donovan has been appointed as the interim head coach of the San Diego Wave NWSL team for the remainder of the 2024 season. Donovan, who previously coached the San Diego Loyal, made this decision after careful consideration and believes in the potential of the players to achieve success under his guidance. His extensive playing career and coaching experience make him a valuable addition to the team as they aim for a strong finish to the season.
