Keir Starmer officially named the new UK prime minister in the latest development | Lifestyle

Labour leader Keir Starmer has officially been appointed as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after his party’s landslide victory in the national election. The ceremony known as the “kissing of hands” took place at Buckingham Palace, where Starmer received the blessing of King Charles III. In a photo to announce his new title, Starmer is seen heading to his official residence at No. 10 Downing Street.

The previous Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, offered his resignation to the King following the Conservative Party’s significant defeat in the election. Sunak, who had been in office for a short period, officially left his post after meeting with the monarch at the palace.

There were notable losses for the Conservatives in this election, with former Prime Minister Liz Truss and other high-profile lawmakers losing their seats. Additionally, left-wing disruptor George Galloway, who had won a seat in a special election only months ago, lost to a Labour candidate.

Despite these changes, Starmer has stated that his government will prioritize the country over party interests and focus on national renewal. With more than half of the seats counted, Labour is projected to secure a majority in the House of Commons, allowing Starmer to form a new government.

International leaders, including those from Australia and New Zealand, have congratulated Starmer on his victory. As the country awaits a new leader, Larry the cat, a well-known resident of Downing Street, was seen waiting patiently outside the official residence for the transition of power.
