Israel initiates large-scale raids in the occupied West Bank

Israeli forces conducted an aerial counterterrorism operation in the Al-Faraa refugee camp, south of Jenin, resulting in the death of four armed militants. The Palestinian health ministry reported at least nine casualties, and local officials mentioned that Israeli forces had surrounded the area, limiting access to hospitals. The Nour Shams camp in Tulkarem was warned of the impending raids by the Palestinian Authority. Foreign Minister Katz linked these operations to the ongoing conflict in Gaza, calling it a “full-fledged war” that must be won. He emphasized the need to address threats in the West Bank similar to Gaza, including evacuating residents if necessary.

Katz also accused Iran of funding and arming terrorist groups in the West Bank, following models seen in Gaza and Lebanon. Israel frequently blames Iran for violence in the region, citing its support of groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. The recent raids in the West Bank coincide with heightened tensions in the area, as Iran had vowed retaliation against Israel for the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

The situation escalated further when clashes erupted at Israel’s border with Lebanon after the assassination of Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr. This incident marked another flashpoint in the region’s turmoil, with both sides warning of retaliation. These events underscored the complex web of regional conflicts involving Iran, Israel, and militant groups, adding to the already volatile situation in the Middle East.
