As the 29-month-old war between Ukraine and Russia continues, Kyiv has launched attacks on Russian oil depots, a submarine, and an airfield. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has praised Ukrainian forces for their actions, specifically highlighting strikes on Russian airfields, oil refineries, and logistics. These attacks are seen as retaliation for the bombardment that Ukraine has faced since Russia invaded more than two years ago.
The Ukrainian military reported sinking a submarine in Russian-controlled Sevastopol, attacking a southern Russian airfield, and hitting oil depots and storage facilities in various Russian regions. Zelenskyy emphasized that each strike that responds to Russia’s bombs and logistics brings the end of the war closer.
Ukraine has also asked for permission to use long-range weapons from Western allies for further attacks on Russia. The Ukrainian president cited over 600 guided aerial bombs used by Russian forces in the past week to attack Ukraine. In response, Russia reported drone attacks causing fires at a fuel storage depot in the Rostov region and an oil storage depot in Belgorod.
Ukraine has significantly increased its use of long-range drones this year to target Russian oil facilities, aiming to damage sites supporting Russian forces and the country’s economy. As the conflict continues, Kyiv has taken responsibility for attacks on Russian-held territory, further escalating tensions between the two nations.
