Padres Come Up Short in Finale of Successful Road Trip Against Orioles – San Diego Union-Tribune

The Padres finished their longest road trip of the season with an 8-6 loss to the Orioles, completing a 7-2 trip that began with a 7-0 loss in Cleveland after the All-Star break. Despite the loss, the Padres had won seven straight games before Sunday’s defeat, putting them in contention for the National League’s top wild-card playoff spot.

The team fell one win short of achieving the best winning percentage on a road trip of at least nine games in franchise history. Randy Vásquez struggled on the mound, allowing six runs in the third inning before being replaced by Enyel De Los Santos.

The Padres staged a comeback, scoring five runs between the fifth and sixth innings to get within one run of the Orioles. Xander Bogaerts hit a 400-foot home run in the sixth inning, while Manny Machado had a solid hit in the eighth inning that was caught by Orioles center fielder Cedric Mullins at the wall.

Despite loading the bases in the ninth inning, the Padres were only able to score one run before the Orioles added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth. The game ultimately ended in an 8-6 loss for the Padres.

The Padres’ successful road trip showcased their resilience and potential for a strong playoff push as they continue their season.
