Senator Bernie Sanders pledges to support Kamala Harris in her election campaign, but stops short of making an endorsement at this time.

Dozens of Democrats have quickly endorsed Kamala Harris for president in the last 72 hours, but Sen. Bernie Sanders is not ready to join them yet. Sanders hopes Harris will defeat Trump in November but wants to see more specific plans from her to help working-class Americans before formally backing her campaign. Sanders emphasized the need for Harris to focus on the working class in order to win, and suggested that her choice of running mate will be important to his endorsement. Sanders had similar demands of President Biden before supporting him, pushing for expanded Social Security and raising the minimum wage. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also endorsed Harris, urging unity to defeat Trump. Forty-eight Democratic senators and 175 House members, including Schumer and Jeffries, have endorsed Harris, as well as a majority of pledged delegates to the Democratic convention. Overall, the support for Harris is strong within the Democratic party, but Sanders and others are waiting for more specific policies from her before fully endorsing her campaign.
