New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, met with incoming border czar Tom Homan to discuss the issue of dangerous individuals committing violent acts in cities across America. Both men described the meeting positively, with Homan expressing gratitude for the opportunity to work with Adams on addressing criminals and children. Homan emphasized that Trump’s deportation plans are not racially motivated and are instead targeted and well-planned operations.
Homan, a former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, supports hard-line border policies and was chosen by Trump to serve as border czar. Trump’s immigration policies, including the “zero tolerance” policy that led to family separations, were a key part of his campaign.
New York City has sanctuary city policies that limit cooperation with federal deportation efforts, but Adams has expressed a willingness to work with the federal government on addressing violent individuals. The city experienced an influx of migrants in 2022 and 2023, prompting calls for additional federal assistance.
Adams’ political future has been uncertain due to wire fraud and bribery charges filed against him in September, which he denies. Despite these challenges, Adams remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals in the city.
