Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are set to face off in a high-stakes debate on ABC on Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST/6 p.m. PST. This is the only confirmed matchup that the candidates have agreed to after weeks of uncertainty. Originally, the debate was supposed to feature Trump and President Joe Biden, but when Biden dropped out, Harris took his spot. Trump had initially said he would skip the debate, but later agreed to participate. There have been arguments over the terms of the debate, including whether to mute the candidates’ microphones.
The only other confirmed debate will be between Democratic running mate Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota and Trump’s pick, U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio, on Oct. 1. The candidates are expected to provide their exchange of ideas during this time.
ABC News will be hosting the Sept. 10 debate with Linsey Davis and David Muir as moderators. It’s expected to last 90 minutes and will be broadcast on ABC as well as streaming platforms such as Disney+ and Hulu. The debate will take place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, with no live audience present.
Pennsylvania, a key swing state, holds significance for both candidates, as it played a crucial role in Biden’s victory in 2020. Trump was holding a rally in Pennsylvania in July when he was nearly assassinated by a gunman. The upcoming debate between Harris and Trump will follow the same rules as the first debate, with mic muting, no live audience, and no written notes allowed. It’ll be the first time the two candidates meet on the debate stage.
