Daily News: Matthew Richtman becomes first American since 1994 to win the 2025 Los Angeles Marathon


Matthew Richtman made history at the Los Angeles Marathon by winning the men’s race with a time of 2 hours, 7 minutes, and 56 seconds. This victory also earned him the $10,000 Marathon Chase bonus. Richtman, a former All-American at Montana State, dominated the competition and expressed his excitement at his win. In the women’s race, Tejinesh Gebisa Tulu of Ethiopia emerged victorious. The marathon featured thousands of runners racing from Dodger Stadium to Century City in the 40th running of the annual event. Richtman’s win marks the first time an American has won the race since 1994. He now has his sights set on defending his title in 2026. Additionally, Savannah Berry, a rising star in the running world, finished third in the women’s race and expressed her gratitude for being able to compete in a race she has watched since childhood. The event also included a wheelchair marathon, won by Luis Francisco Sanclemente for the third consecutive year.
