Man in Memphis claims he was shot by his own dog while he was in bed

A man in Memphis sustained a gunshot wound when his dog accidentally fired a gun by jumping on a bed. The incident happened in the Frayser neighborhood early Monday morning. The man was lying on his bed with a friend when his dog, a pitbull puppy named Oreo, jumped onto the bed and its paw got stuck in the gun’s trigger guard, causing the gun to go off. The man was grazed in his left thigh as a result. The man’s friend left the home after the incident and took the gun with her. The victim was taken to the hospital in noncritical condition. Tennessee does not have any state laws requiring firearm owners to lock their weapons, but Memphis police recommend keeping guns locked at home and offer free gun locks at precincts. Shell casings were found on the floor of the front room where the incident occurred. It serves as a reminder of the importance of proper gun safety and storage to prevent accidents from happening.
