An updated high surf advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for Malibu, Los Angeles County Beaches, and Ventura County Beaches. The advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. until Friday, March 14 at 3 p.m. Large breaking waves of 6 to 9 feet in Ventura County and 5 to 8 feet in Los Angeles County are expected, along with dangerous rip currents. The NWS warns of an increased risk for ocean drowning, as rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large waves may cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore. People are advised to stay out of the water or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be particularly dangerous in these conditions, so it is recommended to stay off the rocks. The public is urged to take caution and stay informed about the evolving surf conditions.
