Zuriel Elise Oduwole, a 22-year-old UCLA graduate from Santa Clarita, never expected to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. Her global education advocacy began at 10 after seeing a girl forced into marriage on TV. She co-founded Dream Up Speak Up Stand Up to fight for girls’ education and end child marriages. Nominated by a USC professor, she may join an elite list of American Nobel laureates. Oduwole has met with presidents from over 21 countries and led initiatives that ended child marriages in Mozambique impacting 1.1 million girls. She inspires her sister Azaliah, who also works with her.
The nomination recognizes nearly 15 years of dedication to empowering girls worldwide through education and advocacy. Oduwole emphasizes the importance of media and storytelling in creating change-makers among youth. Despite media recognition and accolades, she remains focused on her mission. Oduwole’s influence and impact extend beyond her achievements, inspiring others to take action and make a difference. Her work continues to transform lives and societies, driving progress towards global peace and equality.
