Hollywood Hills Murder: Man Sentenced to 29 Years for Killing Rapper Pop Smoke – Daily News

A 19-year-old man, Corey Walker, has been sentenced to 29 years in state prison for his role in the Hollywood Hills killing of rap artist Pop Smoke in 2020. Walker pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and two counts of home-invasion robbery, admitting gang and gun allegations. He became aware that Pop Smoke was staying at a rental home in Hollywood Hills and led a group of teenagers to the house to rob him. Pop Smoke was shot during the incident and later died at the hospital.

Three other individuals involved in the crime were charged in juvenile court, with one admitting to first-degree murder and home-invasion robbery charges, and the other two admitting to various robbery charges. The details of their custody status are unclear.

Pop Smoke, whose real name was Bashar Jackson, was a rising star in the music industry, winning multiple awards posthumously. He was known for hits like “Welcome to the Party” and “Gatti,” and collaborated with artists like Nicki Minaj and Travis Scott. His mother, Audrey Jackson, accepted awards on his behalf and spoke about his music’s impact on young listeners.

The incident occurred after Pop Smoke posted photos from a party at the house, inadvertently revealing the address. LAPD received a 911 call reporting a break-in, leading to the discovery of the rapper’s gunshot wounds. The tragic event shocked the music world, but Pop Smoke’s legacy continues through his music and impact on young fans.
