Chris Kluwe, ex-NFL punter, arrested for demonstration against California city honoring Donald Trump

Former NFL punter Chris Kluwe was recently arrested for disrupting a city council meeting in Huntington Beach, California. The protest stemmed from the approval of a plaque in a public library that used the acronym “MAGA,” which is associated with President Donald Trump’s slogan. In the meeting, Kluwe referred to MAGA as a “Nazi movement” and announced his intention to engage in peaceful civil disobedience. He was eventually led out of the room in handcuffs by the police.

During the incident, Kluwe stated that MAGA represents various negative actions, including erasing trans individuals, promoting racism, and cutting funds for education. In an interview with the Orange County Register, Kluwe shared that he was detained for four hours before being released.

Kluwe, who played as a punter in the NFL for eight seasons between 2005 and 2012, initially started his career with the Seattle Seahawks before joining the Minnesota Vikings. He retired from professional football in 2014. The protest and subsequent arrest have thrust Kluwe into the spotlight once again, highlighting his vocal opposition to what he perceives as harmful and discriminatory ideologies represented by the MAGA slogan.
