Young creatives explore technology through free workshops aimed at igniting career passions

Teens in Macon, Georgia had the opportunity to explore the world of technology and media through a series of free classes at the Bloomfield Gilead Recreation Center. The event, part of the Macon-Bibb Teen Communication Program, featured classes on flying drones, photography, public speaking, and writing, aimed at providing hands-on experience for students from 5th through 12th grade.

Participants like Kayla Green expressed excitement about the opportunity to learn new skills and pursue their interests. Green was particularly inspired to start her own podcast. Jaliyha Bailey highlighted learning how to operate drones as the highlight of the day. The event, supervised by Jacory Bazell, ran from 11 AM to 6 PM and sought to expose teens to media and technology while providing a supportive space for creativity and exploration.

Noah Turner emphasized the educational benefits of the program, noting that it helps students gain knowledge in various subjects beyond just technology. Green also saw the potential for these skills to aid her in future business endeavors, expressing interest in creating a law firm.

With students encouraged to attend weekly classes to further their media education, the program aims to not only equip young people with technical skills but also to foster their creativity and self-expression. As participants like Turner noted, the program offers more than just lessons in technology—it provides a space for personal growth and development across various academic disciplines.
