The Rest of the World’s annual photo contest aimed to showcase the impact of technology in various communities worldwide. The winners, selected from 227 submissions from 45 countries, highlighted the diverse and evolving ways in which technology influences our lives.
First place went to Grace Yoon for her powerful image of migrants being scanned at the U.S.-Mexico border, capturing the human element behind the technology. Second place featured Saumya Khandelwal’s photo of a woman studying for government exams while caring for her newborn in rural India, showcasing the challenges and opportunities technology provides. Third place was awarded to Claire Thomas for a photo of a viewing party in Mongolia, where modern technology connects remote communities to the outside world.
Honorable mentions included images of children playing amid wind turbines in the Philippines and innovative uses of technology in various contexts, highlighting the ever-evolving relationship between society and technology.
The contest judges, including Munira Mutaher and Kate Bubacz, emphasized the importance of recognizing and documenting the impact of technology in our daily lives.
