Bell High School’s baseball team is facing high expectations after winning the school’s first City Section Open Division championship in 2024. The Eagles had not been in an upper division final since 1953, making last season’s victory even more significant. The main question for the 2025 season is whether the Eagles have the hunger to repeat their success.
The team has a strong roster of returning players, including City Section player of the year Jayden Rojas and All-City outfielder Luis Melendez. Rojas, a junior pitcher and outfielder, is one of seven returning starters for Bell High.
Their main competition this season is expected to come from Birmingham, the runner-up from last season. Birmingham’s Allen Olmos will be taking on the ace role, supported by All-City first baseman Sebastian Valdez. Additionally, freshmen Carlos Acuna and Jordan Lindsay are expected to make a significant impact on the team.
Other teams to watch include Granada Hills, El Camino Real, Sylmar, San Pedro, Cleveland, and Chatsworth. These teams all have standout players returning and are ready to make their mark on the upcoming season.
The Easton tournament marks the beginning of the season for these talented teams, with expectations running high for a competitive and exciting season ahead. For more updates on high school sports, readers can email eric.sondheimer@latimes.com to submit news and updates.
