Appeals Court Refuses to Stop Judge’s Order Mandating Trump Administration to Unfreeze All Federal Funds

In a recent development, the federal appeals court has denied an emergency appeal from the Trump administration to halt a judge’s order requiring the release of billions of dollars in federal grants and loans. The ruling stemmed from a lawsuit filed by nearly two dozen Democratic states after the administration attempted to pause all federal funding.

U.S. District Court Judge John McConnell found that the administration had disobeyed a court order and ordered the immediate release of federal grants and loans. The Justice Department argued that the judge’s order was an overreach and prevented the administration from exercising its lawful authority over discretionary spending.

The frozen grants and loans, including funding for early childhood education and HIV prevention research, have caused serious problems for residents, according to the states. The court battle is part of a series of legal setbacks for the Trump administration, including blocked attempts to end birthright citizenship and implement a mass deferred resignation plan for federal workers.

The appeals court is expected to continue considering the issue as the case moves forward in front of Judge McConnell.
