The sixth-ranked UCLA gymnastics team delivered an outstanding performance on Friday night, scoring a season-high 197.950 to defeat Washington with a score of 196.125. UCLA hit all 24 routines, with 14 scores of 9.9 or higher, sweeping the individual events. Chae Campbell led the team with a season-best all-around score of 39.625 and also won the vault event with a 9.925. Other standout performances included Frida Esparza on the uneven bars, Ciena Alipio and Emma Malabuyo on the balance beam, and Jordan Chiles and Brooklyn Moors on the floor exercise.
The Bruins started strong with a season-high score on the uneven bars, followed by solid performances on the vault and floor exercise. They closed the meet with an impressive showing on the balance beam, with all six gymnasts scoring 9.900 or higher. The team’s performance resulted in the sixth-best beam total in program history.
Next up, UCLA will face Penn State at Pauley Pavilion on Friday at 8 p.m.
