The Long Beach State men’s volleyball team continued their undefeated streak by defeating UCLA 3-1 in a rematch of their NCAA title match last spring. Led by Skyler Varga and Daniil Hershtynovich, Long Beach secured the victory with Moni Nikolov contributing seven aces and Lazar Bouchkov excelling in blocks. UCLA’s Zach Rama and Cooper Robinson put up a strong fight, but Long Beach’s .304 hitting percentage proved too much for the Bruins.
The first set saw Long Beach take an early lead, while UCLA rallied in the second set to even the match. Long Beach dominated the third set, fueled by Nikolov and McRaven’s strong play at the net. The fourth set was tightly contested, but Long Beach ultimately emerged victorious.
The two teams will meet again on Wednesday night at Pauley Pavilion for another exciting matchup. Long Beach’s win serves as a statement of their continued dominance in men’s volleyball, while UCLA will look to bounce back in the next game.
