Israel readies for Gaza evacuation; Egypt campaigns against Trump proposal

Israel has begun preparing for the departure of large numbers of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, in line with President Donald Trump’s plan. The Trump administration has adjusted aspects of the proposal after international rejection, indicating that the relocation would be temporary. Despite this, Palestinians have vehemently rejected the plan, fearing they would never be allowed to return.

Egypt has launched a diplomatic effort to prevent the plan, warning that expulsions could destabilize the region and jeopardize their peace treaty with Israel. Saudi Arabia and other key allies have also rejected mass transfers of Palestinians.

The plan, which could amount to “ethnic cleansing,” involves voluntary relocation of Palestinians from war-torn Gaza. Israeli officials have ordered military preparations for the emigration, but no visible actions have been taken yet.

Egypt, a key player in the region, has communicated its opposition to the proposal to the US government, Israel, and other allies. They emphasize the importance of a Palestinian state that includes Gaza and are committed to promoting reconstruction in the region without forced relocations.
