Community members affected by the Eaton fire in Pasadena were given a day of self-care and pampering by Black barbers and hairstylists at Pasadena City College. Over 30 stylists volunteered their time and skills to provide free haircuts, styles, and hair care products to those in need. The event aimed to give fire victims a sense of normalcy and provide products specifically tailored for Black hair care needs.
Darshell Hannah, the organizer of the event, highlighted the importance of supporting communities affected by the fire and ensuring they have access to the necessary resources, especially for Black residents who may struggle to find specialized products for their hair. Protective styles such as braids and twists were offered to help individuals maintain their hair without daily styling. The event received positive feedback from attendees, with many expressing gratitude for the opportunity to receive free services during a challenging time.
The event was the result of community collaboration and support, with donations and mutual aid from across Southern California helping to make it possible. Black residents emphasized the importance of having access to hair care products and services following the fire. The event was a step towards healing and rebuilding for those impacted by the Eaton fire.
