In a tragic display of devastation, the Eaton fire in Los Angeles County has left over 9,000 structures damaged or destroyed, with over 5,000 single-family homes and 100 multi-family dwellings affected. The fire, which started on January 7, has burned 14,117 acres in Altadena and Pasadena, resulting in at least 17 fatalities. CalFire and the FAA authorized drone footage on Sunday to assess the situation, revealing the mammoth scale of destruction caused by the fire.
On Sunday, containment of the Eaton fire reached 81%, with firefighters and water-dropping helicopters working to extinguish hot spots in inaccessible canyons near Winters Creek, Mt. Lowe, and Mt. Wilson. The intense Santa Ana Winds have fueled the fire, leading to widespread damage and loss of life across Los Angeles County. A total of 27 casualties have been reported so far, with more than 180,000 people under evacuation orders. The photos taken by photographer Jeff Gritchen showcase the tragic aftermath of the Eaton fire, serving as a poignant reminder of the devastating impact of natural disasters.
