San Diego State’s Lackluster Performance Leads to Loss Against UNLV at Viejas Arena, Damaging Aztecs’ Postseason Hopes – San Diego Union-Tribune

The San Diego State Aztecs suffered a disappointing 76-68 loss to UNLV on Saturday night at Viejas Arena, marking their first Quad 3 defeat in 67 games. The loss may put their NCAA Tournament hopes in jeopardy as they struggled with poor shooting and turnovers throughout the game.

Miles Byrd, who had a strong performance in the previous game against Colorado State, was held scoreless in the first half against UNLV. The Aztecs struggled to find their offensive rhythm, shooting just 26.9% from the field and making only 3 of 16 three-point attempts.

Despite a late comeback attempt led by Byrd and Nick Boyd, the Aztecs were unable to overcome the deficit as UNLV’s offense continued to score efficiently. The Rebels capitalized on defensive lapses by the Aztecs and made timely baskets to secure the victory.

With the loss, the Aztecs now face a challenging road trip to Air Force and Nevada, where they will look to bounce back and improve their tournament resume. Head coach Brian Dutcher will need to address the team’s offensive struggles and refocus their efforts on defense in order to regain momentum and stay in contention for a postseason berth.
