In a dominant showing, Santa Fe Christian’s boys basketball team secured their third Coastal League win of the week with a 64-43 victory over Maranatha Christian. This win capped off an impressive week for the team, which also included victories over Francis Parker and La Jolla Country Day. Coach Matt Carlino praised his team’s strong defensive performance, noting that the players are fully committed to their strategy.
Leading scorer Dax Hall and newcomer Jaden Hitipeuw played key roles in the victory. Hall emphasized the importance of their strong start in league play, while Hitipeuw, a junior from Austria, showcased his versatility as a forward and playmaker. The team’s depth and cohesion were evident throughout the game, with Coen Sponsel contributing nine points and solid rebounding from the entire team.
Despite facing tough opponents like Montgomery and Loyola earlier in the season, Santa Fe Christian has shown resilience and growth. With a mix of experienced and young talent, they have emerged as a force in Division 1 basketball. Maranatha Christian, a Division 3 team, put up a solid effort led by Ryan Ownbey’s scoring and Shane Piester’s rebounding.
As Santa Fe Christian looks ahead to the remainder of the season, they are confident in their abilities and team chemistry. With a strong emphasis on defense and a shared goal to make history as a school team, the players are primed for success in future matchups.
