Progress made overnight by firefighters in battling Palisades and Eaton fires – Daily News

Firefighters in Los Angeles have made significant progress in containing the deadly wildfires that have been raging in the area. The Eaton fire is now 73% contained, up from 65% the day before, while the Palisades fire is now 43% contained, up from 39%.

Cal Fire has stated that the Eaton fire has burned 14,117 acres and resulted in 17 fatalities and nearly 9,000 structures destroyed. Meanwhile, the Palisades fire has burned 23,713 acres and resulted in 10 fatalities and nearly 4,000 structures destroyed. Both fires have seen minimal fire behavior and no further growth in recent days.

More than 2,700 personnel are still working on containing the Eaton fire, along with 13 helicopters and nearly 250 engines. The Palisades fire has over 5,400 personnel, 44 helicopters, and more than 550 engines involved in firefighting efforts.

Some areas under evacuation warning have now been opened to residents only, with a curfew order in effect from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Officials are also investigating whether the Palisades fire may have been kicked off by a previous blaze.

A virtual community meeting will be held to provide an update on the fires, answer questions, and discuss recovery efforts. Evacuation zones can be identified by visiting fire.ca.gov/incidents.html. Overall, progress is being made in containing the fires, but the communities affected are continuing to face challenges in the aftermath of the devastation.
