Vivek Ramaswamy, a biotech entrepreneur and ally of President Trump, is expected to launch a campaign for governor of Ohio, despite other Republicans, such as Jon Husted, Dave Yost, and Robert Sprague, also preparing their own bids. Ramaswamy, who is close to Trump and has significant personal wealth, has support from conservatives. Yost has recruited a veteran of Trump’s campaigns for his bid for governor, while Sprague has filed paperwork for his run. Husted, a potential candidate for governor, was appointed to a Senate seat by Gov. Mike DeWine, leaving the governor’s field wide open. Ramaswamy could be a strong contender due to his ties to Trump and financial resources.
Acton, a Democrat and former health director, declared her candidacy for governor as well. DeWine won re-election by a large margin in 2022, and Trump has won Ohio comfortably in the past three elections. The upcoming race for governor in Ohio is expected to be highly competitive, with a mix of established politicians and newcomers vying for the position.
