President-elect Donald Trump’s outdoor inauguration ceremony has been moved indoors to the Capitol rotunda due to frigid weather forecasted for Inauguration Day in Washington, D.C. The high temperature is expected to be around 20 degrees with strong winds and a low of six degrees. This decision was made to prevent any harm to the tens of thousands of law enforcement officials, first responders, and supporters who would have been outside for many hours.
Trump announced the change on his social media platform, Truth Social, mentioning that the ceremony will take place in the Capitol Rotunda as it did for Ronald Reagan’s second inauguration in 1985. Supporters will still be able to watch the ceremony from the Capital One Arena where Trump will also hold an indoor rally on Sunday.
While the change in venue will prevent Trump from drawing a large crowd on the National Mall, it was deemed necessary to ensure the safety of those attending the event. Some disappointed supporters who had traveled to Washington expressed disappointment at the change, but understood the need for the decision given the extreme weather conditions. Despite the venue change, the historic event will still take place, and supporters will be able to view it from the arena.
