Thousands of Californians affected by the devastating wildfires are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross, which is providing food, shelter, emotional support, recovery planning, and financial assistance. More than 680 evacuees are currently in Red Cross shelters, where they can access meals, phone charging, and other essential support. The charity organization has seen an outpouring of support from across the country, with volunteers donating blood, money, and time to help those in need.
The Red Cross is also offering financial assistance to households impacted by the recent fires in certain areas. Individuals can apply for aid online or by phone and are encouraged to seek help from both the Red Cross and FEMA without impacting their eligibility for assistance.
As the wildfires continue to burn, the Red Cross is facing challenges with blood drive cancellations due to poor air quality and dangerous weather conditions. Donors, especially those with type O negative blood and platelets, are urgently needed to save lives. The organization emphasizes the importance of preparedness in the face of increasing natural disasters, with more relief operations being launched than ever before.
Support from generous donors, including members of the Annual Disaster Giving Program and Disaster Responder members, enables the Red Cross to immediately respond to disasters and provide crucial assistance to individuals and families in crisis. Contributing to the relief effort can be done by visiting redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS, or texting CAWILDFIRES to 90999 to make a donation.
