The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) leaders have announced a phased reopening plan over a two-week period following the Eaton fire that destroyed at least three campuses. Superintendent Elizabeth Blanco expressed the hope of quickly getting students back to school, but the situation is fluid. The district plans to release the names of schools ready for reopening with campuses further from the fire’s impact opening first. State Superintendent Tony Thurmond has been distributing meals to affected families. The Eaton fire had scorched over 14,000 acres, claimed 16 lives, and uprooted countless families. PUSD, which serves over 14,000 students, was among the hardest-hit districts. Online educational materials have been provided during campus closures, and Grab and Go meals are available. Efforts to clean and sanitize campuses, particularly severely impacted ones, have been underway. The focus is on ensuring safe conditions for both educators and students as schools prepare to reopen. Many employees were evacuated, and it is unclear how many have lost their homes. The union representing teachers and staff aims to prioritize safety as education resumes in classrooms.
