Automotive technology businesses can access £40m in funding

UK-registered businesses involved in late-stage collaborative research and development (CR&D) of automotive technology can now apply for a share of up to £40m in government funding matched by industry. The competition, facilitated by the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK (APC) and delivered in partnership with Innovate UK, aims to support projects that design, develop, and manufacture zero-emission automotive technology. Eligible projects must focus on delivering net-zero on-vehicle technologies for on or off-road applications, including two-wheelers, and help accelerate the transition of the UK automotive supply chain.

Projects must be part of a working consortium including at least one SME company, have a duration of 18-36 months, and demonstrate a clear route to market. The technologies being advanced include energy storage, batteries, fuel cells, electric machines, power electronics, and more, all aimed at reducing CO2 levels and supporting the transition to zero emissions.

Successful projects can claim up to 50% of their eligible project costs in government match funding, with awards ranging from £2.5m to £20m, subject to approval. The goal is to bring new technology to market, strengthen the UK’s position in the zero-emission automotive industry, and create and safeguard jobs. Interested applicants can find more details on the APC website and are encouraged to contact the Business Development Team for guidance on submitting a strong application.

Key competition dates include a Q&A event on January 15th and an application deadline on March 14th. This funding opportunity will not only drive innovation in the automotive sector but also contribute to the UK’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
