Social worker Anthony Ruffin, who has spent more than a decade helping the homeless find housing, recently lost his own home in a fire in Altadena. Ruffin, who is known for his dedication to his clients, shared memories of his childhood in the historic Black neighborhood he grew up in, highlighting the strong sense of community he experienced.
Despite facing personal tragedy, Ruffin remains committed to helping those in need, exemplifying his mentor’s motto of “whatever it takes, for as long as it takes.” He recalled his upbringing in a loving, crowded home where people were always welcomed, reflecting on his family’s history in Altadena.
Currently staying in a hotel after losing everything in the fire, Ruffin is focused on helping a homeless client secure housing, despite his own challenges. He plans to rebuild his home in the same location as a tribute to his family’s legacy. Friends and neighbors have rallied around Ruffin, setting up a GoFundMe page to support him during this difficult time.
