The Department of Justice released a final report from Special Counsel David Weiss, who charged Hunter Biden with gun and tax crimes before being pardoned by President Joe Biden. In the report, Weiss criticized Biden for suggesting that the prosecution of his son was a miscarriage of justice, saying that it undermined the public’s confidence in the criminal justice system. Biden pardoned his son in December, shortly before he was scheduled to be sentenced for violating a federal law that prohibits drug users from possessing weapons. Weiss, who was appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland in 2023, had bipartisan support when he served as U.S. attorney in Delaware during Trump’s first term. The Justice Department is also expected to issue a report on Jack Smith’s special counsel investigation into Donald Trump’s attempts to remain in power after losing the 2020 presidential election.
