Fire crews made significant progress in containing the Eaton and Palisades fires overnight, with the Eaton fire now 33% contained and the Palisades fire at 14% containment. The Eaton fire did not expand beyond the 14,117 acres reported the previous day, while the Palisades fire grew minimally to 23,713 acres. The death toll for both fires stands at 24, with 16 deaths related to the Eaton fire. More than 7,000 structures have been damaged or destroyed in the Eaton fire, and over 5,000 structures have been affected in the Palisades fire. Firefighters were entering their 7th day of battling the blazes that started on January 7. Santa Ana winds were expected to return to Southern California, with gusts predicted to reach 20 to 40 mph and low relative humidity levels. The wind event was anticipated to last through Wednesday, with extreme conditions likely during Monday night and Tuesday.
