Day laborers from the Pasadena area come together to clean up their town and support one another after Eaton fire devastation – Daily News

Los Angeles-area day laborers, facing uncertain futures and lack of social security, have taken it upon themselves to clean up after the Eaton fire that swept through the area. The Pasadena Community Job Center has been leading the effort for four days, with volunteers following the day laborers to clear brush, fallen trees, and debris. The National Day Laborer Organizing Network co-executive director, Pablo Alvarado, highlights the immigrant workers’ essential role in the clean-up efforts.

Day laborer César Saucedo, who is certified to work in natural disasters, has seen the impact of the fires on his clients and is motivated to help. However, he expresses concerns about the lack of safety nets for undocumented workers. Another lead volunteer, Roberto Morales, worries about the health risks posed by the old materials in burned homes. Despite the challenges, Morales plans to continue the clean-up work and adapt his skills to find new job opportunities.

The community has shown up in large numbers to support the day laborers in their efforts, showcasing the resilience and strength of the immigrant workforce in times of crisis.
