Is Canada on the Path to Becoming a U.S. State? – Donald Trump News

As talks of Canada potentially becoming the 51st American state continue, experts weigh in on the feasibility of such a transition. Adam Chapnick, a professor of defence studies, believes that while it may be possible for the U.S. to conquer Canada militarily, the process would be complicated and lengthy due to constitutional processes on both sides.

For Canada to join the U.S., it would require invoking a constitutional amendment, gaining approval from the House of Commons, the Senate, and every province. Even Indigenous Nations would have a say in the decision, with no guarantee they would want to join the United States. Additionally, the annexation would need approval from the Congress and Senate in the U.S.

Frederic Berard, a lawyer, and professor, believes that while America may have reasons to want Canada’s resources, it is unlikely that Canada would unanimously agree to join the U.S. If military action were to be taken, Canada’s options may be limited due to the U.S.’s permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

Overall, experts believe that the idea of Canada becoming the 51st state is more of a negotiation tactic by President-elect Donald Trump. They advise Canada not to panic and to focus on finding common ground within the country. While the idea may be intriguing, the complexities and uncertainties surrounding the process show that the transition would not be simple.
