Former MLS Cup champion and league MVP, Carlos Vela, and his family were among those affected by the devastating Palisades fire in Malibu. Vela’s wife, Saioa Cañibano, shared on social media that their home was lost in the fire but reassured their friends and fans that they were safe.
Despite the loss of their home, the family expressed gratitude for their safety and shared their shock at witnessing the devastation caused by the wildfire. Cañibano shared that it was “very sad and terrifying to see how everything burns,” and sent love to those affected by the fire. The Vela family includes an eight-year-old son, Romeo, and a 4-year-old daughter, India.
Carlos Vela is a highly accomplished player in the MLS, having won the MLS Cup in 2022, as well as the Supporter Shield in 2019 and 2022. He also earned the Golden Boot and MVP titles in 2019 while playing for LAFC. Vela has represented Mexico in two World Cups.
