A fast-moving wildfire, named the Hurst Fire, started in Sylmar and quickly grew to 500 acres, prompting emergency evacuations in the area. The fire, which began near Diamond Road, spread rapidly within minutes, jumping the 210 Freeway and moving into the Angeles National Forest. The Los Angeles Emergency Management Department ordered evacuations north of the 210 Freeway from Roxford Street to the 5 Freeway/14 Freeway split. The blaze also threatened the Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall but there were no immediate plans to evacuate. This fire was one of three major wildfires in Los Angeles County on that day, all fueled by high winds and dry conditions. The Palisades Fire in Pacific Palisades burned over 2,920 acres and forced 30,000 residents to evacuate. The Eaton Fire in Pasadena, Altadena, Arcadia, and Sierra Madre also led to evacuations. The situation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
