Getty Villa collections reported as safe despite Palisades fire damaging grounds

The Palisades fire threatened the Getty Villa on Tuesday, but thanks to extensive fire prevention efforts and the quick response of firefighters, the building and its valuable collections were spared from damage, officials said. Katherine E. Fleming, President and CEO of the J. Paul Getty Trust, confirmed that the fire did not reach the rare artifacts and antiquities housed at the iconic museum. Measures such as clearing brush, water storage, and state-of-the-art air handling systems helped protect the villa and its contents. The Getty will remain closed until January 13 as a precaution. The Los Angeles Fire Department, Los Angeles County Fire Department, and other agencies were praised for their efforts in keeping the staff and museum safe. Despite some burned trees and vegetation on site, no significant damage was reported. The Getty Villa, a popular tourist attraction in Pacific Palisades, is now safe from the Palisades fire that swept through the area.
