In 2025, various states will see the implementation of new laws on a range of controversial topics, from artificial intelligence to gun control to marijuana. California, known for Hollywood and tech giants, is introducing laws to regulate AI use and child influencers on social media. Other states are facing legal challenges over new laws, such as restrictions on social media and pornography websites, as well as rules on gender identification in schools. Delaware is mandating abortion coverage, while Minnesota and Delaware are enacting gun control measures. Kentucky is legalizing medical marijuana, joining the majority of states that have already done so. Minimum wages will increase in over 20 states, with the highest in Washington, California, and Connecticut. Oregon is cracking down on drug use on public transit, while Missouri is enforcing penalties for cellphone use while driving. Tax breaks in Arizona and Kansas and expanded voting rights in Oklahoma are also among the changes taking place in 2025.
