A winter storm brought heavy snowfall to the Alps, Bulgaria, and Himachal Pradesh, causing disruptions and dangerous conditions. The snowstorm in the Alps created over 1 meter of snow on some peaks, leading to a significant avalanche risk. Ski resorts in Bulgaria had to shut down temporarily due to road closures from the heavy snowfall. In Himachal Pradesh, heavy snowfall caused four deaths and led to road closures and a 12-hour rescue operation near the Atal tunnel.
Meanwhile, Fiji experienced heavy rain and flooding from a low-pressure system, with river flooding and landslides now a concern. In Santa Cruz, California, stormy conditions resulted in large swells up to 10.7 meters, causing the municipal wharf to partially collapse. The previous week also saw severe weather in San Francisco, with strong winds and a tornado in Scotts Valley causing damage.
These extreme weather events serve as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and safety measures during severe winter conditions.
