India and Sweden Look to Strengthen Collaboration in Green Technology and Innovation to Address Climate Challenges

India and Sweden are collaborating on sustainable industrial transformation, with the aim of leveraging India’s manufacturing capacity and Sweden’s expertise in sustainable practices. This partnership has the potential to accelerate the energy transition in both countries through efforts in renewable energy integration and transport electrification.

Trade Commissioner of Sweden to India, Sofia Hogman, emphasized the role of Swedish companies in promoting sustainability in India. She mentioned the India-Sweden Innovations Accelerator program, which has introduced over 70 Swedish green-tech firms to the Indian market in the past 12 years. This program has played a key role in advancing clean energy, green hydrogen, and smart grids.

Swedish companies already operating in India are making a significant impact on urban sustainability. Consul General of Sweden in Mumbai, Sven Ostberg, highlighted examples such as Envac’s solid waste management systems in Mumbai and Gujarat, and IVL’s wastewater treatment plant addressing pollution in the Mithi river. These companies are supported through consultancy and study visits to showcase their sustainable practices, benefiting millions of Indian households.

Sweden is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2045 through policies, innovation, and collective responsibility. Their strategy includes renewable energy, electrification, sustainable industrial practices, and reforestation. The collaboration between India and Sweden in sustainable industrial transformation is expected to yield significant results and contribute to the overall sustainability efforts in both countries.
